It’s The Chad & Chad Show! I’m Picking Up My New Project Chevy Square Body Suburban From A Wrecking Yard In Kansas!

I needed another project like a hole in the head, but growing up in a square body Suburban has had me wanting one for a while. I’ve owned several other Suburbans over the years, but never a square body until now! When my buddy Chad Ehrlich put up a video last year about this cool old Suburban I hit him up and asked what it would take to bring it home. We made a deal and the thing has been sitting there for about a year and a half. Man time flies. LOL

In this video, you’ll see Chad and I do a walk around this thing before we load it on the trailer and head for home! If you missed it, we also did a live walk around of the yard to see all the cool parts and cars and trucks that he has on hand. This place is amazing and you can buy whatever you want from Chad for your projects, so watch the live tour of the wrecking yard below as well!

After we got it loaded up, Mom, Dad, Otis, and I hit the road to drive 500 miles back home to Texas. We drove out in the morning and back at night. It took 21 hours for the round trip, including walking the yard, and was worth it. We had a great time and talked about what we are going to do with this thing a lot on the way home.

So here is the plan.

We are going to LS swap it for sure, with either a 5.3 or 6.0 with a cam upgrade. The transmission will either be a 4L65E or a 4L80E. I’m planning to lower it 4 to 5 inches up front and 6 to 7 out back. I might add airbags to the rear to help with trailer towing duties as this thing will be my light-duty tow rig. My heavy-duty tow rig is a square body crew cab dually, so they kind of go together.

This truck is very complete so I’m hoping we only have to replace a few items on the interior, but know for sure that it will need a dash, headliner, and steering column. I’m sure it will also need a few small trim pieces and such, but it is remarkably complete. It’s got three rows of bench seats, and front and rear air conditioning so we want all that to work.

On the outside, it will need a couple of cosmetic things, like new body side trim, a window or two, and a couple of other trim bits. It also has a few rust spots. They are a little worse than I initially thought, but still relatively easy fixes because they are in areas where patch panels are readily available.

What do you think of the plan? What would you guys do with it? Do you like my plan or think it needs to go in a different direction? Watch the videos and let me know what you think!

Video Description:

I’ve known Chad Reynolds for several years. Every time we get together, it always seems that poor decisions are made!!! Lol!!!

Chad is a great guy and we have a lot of fun whenever we hang out! When this old Suburban came in about a year ago, my phone lit up about 17 minutes after I posted the video!!! Chad was in love!!!

We work together a lot and Chad runs a lot of my videos on Bangshift.com and it was easy to work out a deal!! Chad brought his parents up as well as Otis the shop dog and we all hung out in the yard and we even did a Live on the Bangshift channel as well as Chad’s pages!

It’s always great to see our car friends and I can’t wait to see what Chad does with this super cool, squarebody Suburban!!!!
