(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – The Street Rod Nationals are not your typical event. It is a cruise-in sort of thing, but there is a show. Your car isn’t judged unless submitted for it. Cars are driven into the event, but a good number are trailered to the local area. Most are home-built rides, but there are plenty of pro-built rides to get ideas from. There isn’t any racing, but that just lends itself to the laid-back atmosphere. The event is typically the first weekend in August so its usually hot and humid, but the Exposition Center is massive and well-cooled. Having been to events all over the country I can tell you the KY Exposition Center is one of the best forums to host an event like this. Its an almost park-like setting and there isn’t a bad spot to sit and watch cars rumble by.
In this gallery we’ve got muscle-era cars. Some highlights are:
Simple-looking Green Impala more-door hiding a twin-turbo SBC
A really slick Mercury Comet
1974 W-30 Oldsmobile Indy 500 Pace Car
Somernites Cruise give-a-way ’69 Road Runner

No Mercury Comets… lot’s of Ford Falcons though.
