The station wagon has an interesting place in the modern world of hot rodding. As you’ll see in this gallery they can be built to burn up the drag strip, warp corners, scrape the ground, and cruise the boulevard. There’s plenty of room to load all your friends and junk into one, and lots of guys will argue that they are the only four door cars that look “right” in the classic sense.
In this gallery you will see them in all of their glorious forms. From wagons rotting in junkyards to wagons hiking the front wheels on the strip. Wagons made of wood and wagons customized to the hilt are also represented. We dug up lots of cool old woodie wagons and you will find some sedan deliveries in here as well, but we think of them as wagons, too.
In today’s world, the station wagon is all but dead, replaced by huge SUVs that take up way more room while doing virtually nothing better than a traditional station wagon does. The Dodge Magnum was about the last “real” station wagon made by an American manufacturer and Chrysler refused to call it a station wagon, instead calling it a “sport touring” car, whatever the hell that is. Mercedes, BMW, and Volvo are still making them but we have slightly less than zero interest in owning any of those.

Quit glorifying the odd ball. You are fueling the goof ball fire of guys who have no real automotive direction. These don’t look “right” in any sense. The only wagon that looks cool is a stock Nomad and it’s really not your typical wagon as it is a 2 door. Glorious forms? These are restored parts vehicles. There are actual muscle cars that did not get their god given allotment of factory parts from salvage yards because some misguided gear head built the wrong car.
There is no such thing as “the wrong car” you decrepit old moron.
Wagons rule!
I don’t know. That pic of the Dodge Magnum wagon with the grafted on 60 Cadillac bumper and Desoto tail lights looks pretty wrong to me.
egads, I stand corrected.
That one is wrong.
I agree the Magnum is wrong. Never been a fan of wagons but the woodies are cool especially from the 40’s
“decrepit old moron” …. what are you in your 20’s or something.
Some wagons were always among the”cool rides” for decades. a lot of “longroofs” are hot! Love my 63 chevy suburban.
That looks so much like the Pinto wagon I drove to High School once. I got so much shit from my friends never again.
i totally agree with some of the other comments, grancuda is a complete moron, long roofs are plenty cool, and the ultimate sleeper. I’ve surprised plenty of “muscle cars” with my near stock LT-1 powered 95 caprice wagon.
Former Roadmatress wagon owner here! LT1/4L60E, ran 14s. Had to sell it, unfortunately. I miss it. 🙁
Curt, I bet you could just tell us all kinds of stories about your 250hp “long roof”. Those things are so “cool” and have “Corvette” motors in them!
almost loooklike corvettestationwagon
All these wagons and you could not come up with a 63-64 Dodge or Plymouth with the wheels in the air!!!!! Best wagons ever, race cars not grocery getters!!!!
