Gates Salvage Yard Tour: Corvair Rampside Trucks, Rotted Wagons, Heavy Trucks, And More

So we continue on with our frosty walk through Gates Salvage in Hardwick, Vermont. This place was pretty freaking awesome to spend half a day traipsing through. Because Fitzgerald could not walk five feet without looking at some weird Renault, Hillman, Triumph, or other glorified clown car, I concentrated on the American iron that I know most of you are happily interested in. One of the neater things we stumbled upon is the Corvair truck with the side loading ramp in the bed. The unique truck is trapped in a prison of growing trees. The machine could be freed up and this is one of the few pieces that would make for a legitimate restoration candidate. The ramp-side bed is awesome!

Other fun stuff here is a Ford wagon that is literally rotted in half, the odd couple featured above in the form of the Oldsmobile and Land Rover, and the big trucks which nearly sent me into a catatonic state, and hell, everything. We know you desert dwellers may look at this stuff and laugh, but it really was something to be among it all in the stillness of a frigid New England morning. What a day!
