Holley’s Intergalactic Ford Fest and NMRA’s World Finals: More Photos From The Blue Oval Throwdown!

Holley’s Intergalactic Ford Fest and NMRA’s World Finals: More Photos From The Blue Oval Throwdown!

I struggled all day on Sunday to shoot a photo of anything that wasn’t a Mustang on the drag strip. I know, NMRA and Mustangs go hand-in-hand, but with the Ford Fest going on as well, I was hoping for new blood, new shapes. I got a couple of Fusions, a couple of late-model Taurus SHOs, and a Starsky and Hutch-era Ford Ranchero. Good racing to be had, for sure…one of those SHOs had the oats to smack around more than a few shocked Fox bodies…but it wasn’t like the 3S Challenge going on in the circle pit. There, you had a bumpside Ford truck, Vague Industries’ wild-assed Power Stroke-powered Toyota Hilux, and a Galaxie 500XL teaching the cones a thing or two. Dude, that’s the whole point of these events…inclusion and variety!

We all agree that the Intergalactic Ford Fest was a huge success. But I personally have a request list for next year. I want to see more Shelby products. I want a replica of the Thunderbird from “The Crow” parked next to an LTD II with the stripe package, next to a Starsky Torino. I want some old dude next to a 1972 Torino cosplaying as Walt Kowalski. I want to see more Pintos, V8 swapped Escorts, European RS-badged cars. LS Fest, the show that is obviously the benchmark that Ford Fest is being measured against, brings out such a range of variety each year that it never fails to surprise me. Ford Fest needs to be the same thing: Something new every time.

But of course, please keep bringing out world-class Mustangs, too. As many as we can cram into Beech Bend.
