(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – When sorting photos from a collection as large as what we had for a show this big (over 11,000 vehicles being driven into the fairgrounds) we’re bound to make mistakes – and I’m okay with that most of the time. I tried to keep the pre-48 stuff out of the body-type specific galleries and didn’t manage to in here. In my defense, early trucks are still trucks whereas early 2 and 4-door sedans are not technically ‘wagons’. Hey….work with me. This logic seems legitimate to me.
Yes, I also put El Caminos and Rancheros in the ‘truck’ galleries. I’ve had three and used them more for a truck than most and one would haul yard equipment some evenings and get slicks strapped on and bracket race on the weekends. My wife says they are the trans-genders of the automotive world. I’ll go on record as calling them a sport truck and the debate ends there. We managed to capture a few vans in attendance and now we’re thinking one would make a great rig for our trips to shoot photos and an occasional tow rig.
Enjoy this collection of old, not-so-old, low, high, and all trucks in-between.
