Preview: The 2016 NMCA/Quick Fuel Technologies Bluegrass Festival at Beech Bend Raceway in Kentucky

Bowling Green is ripe with the sounds of race cars! Mother Nature has finally finished up with her week of temper tantrums that have included tornados, massive amounts of lightning and deluges of rain, and the sun is coming out just in time for the NMCA/Quick Fuel Technologies Bluegrass Festival. We are looking forward to the action, because there is going to be plenty of it, old school and new. In addition to the swap meet area, a manufacturer’s midway, meet-and-greets (among which are Scott Taylor and his “John Doe” 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass from “Street Outlaws” and Brandon Smith and the “LSKilr” Terminator Mustang from “Street Outlaws New Orleans”), there are several classes of good, solid racing that offers up something for everyone. Pro mods, Nostalgia Super Stock, and True Street will offer up plenty on their own, but we are waiting to see what the other two categories offer up: the Holley EFI Factory Super Cars class is where Drag Pak Challengers, Cobra Jet Mustangs and COPO Camaros will line up and slug it out, and the MX235 Series presented by Redline Motorsports, which will bring some nasty 1/8th mile small-tire cars out of the woodwork for heads-up laps. We trolled through the pits early this morning as everyone was pulling in, setting up their pits, and getting their gear sorted out, and managed to catch some of the first cars out and about as they warmed up and hit the scales for their weight. If you’re local, get here…this weekend’s racing is going to be absolutely bitchin’.

  1. floating doc

The leading photo is a Plymouth Suburban. Very rare in the two door version. I had one as my first car. I’ve never seen another two door one in the wild. Mine was a special order.

As huge as that is, it’s a unibody car.
