SCTA El Mirage: More LSR Racing Shots From The End Of The Year Run!

(Photos: Zane McNary) If there is one facet of land speed racing that Brian Lohnes is constantly harping on as a bonus, it is the freedom of the rules…you can do pretty much whatever the hell you want to provided you’re safe about it. Take a look at the DeSoto you see preparing to make a run, and note the Toronado hubs on all four corners. How many other racing leagues of any type will let you get away with that kind of reasoning? Not many, dear readers, but at LSR events, they will just make sure that it’s mechanically and structurally sound and that if something goes wrong, that you thought of the basic safety components. And there is a category somewhere for that team, and there is a chance that they can break the record in that class. And that’s why they compete.

Counting the lug nuts on that Desoto looks more like 1 ton truck hubs with single dually wheels. Wonder why they went 8 lug…
