Gravelrama 48: More Gravel-Flinging Action From Elimination Hill!

Gravelrama 48 lived up to every expectation I had. There wasn’t much to expect, really…I wanted to see monster roostertails being flung from high-powered machines as they tried to climb the world’s largest anthill. In that realm alone, I was happy. But there is so much more to the event than just Elimination Hill…two different dirt drag setups, an off-roading obstacle course, a show and shine section and for the happy fat kid inside of me, fair food. I’m easy to please, I guess. But if you were standing ten feet away from several hundred horsepower flinging a percentage of the hillside directly rearward by the cubic foot, I’m willing to bet you’d consider that a good day, too.

I do want to highlight the course workers for a second: most of them were kids, and they were busting their humps filling in the divots when a truck sank into the hill, or to mark the stopping points for rigs that didn’t make it to the top, or when they were bringing not only crew but the photographers some flavored ices for us to enjoy. I won’t lie…it was hotter than a mother on top of that hill and by mid-afternoon, when I had to pack up for the drive back home, I was a walking, talking ball of sweat and just that cup of ice made things a whole lot more bearable.

Enough about me, though: more hillclimb action! There’s still more photos coming, too, so stay tuned!
