We have been showing you trucks from the 2015 LA Roadsters show over the last couple of days but today we’re back in roadster mode like we should be. There is no more iconic and used hot rodding platform than the roadster. They are at the very genesis of the hobby/lifestyle/unhealthy obsession that we all share and for good reason. The earliest hot rodders got their hands on them because they were cheap, they were light, and they could be stripped to the bones very quickly, modified easily, and if you wrecked one another could be bought for pennies on the dollar. Like the great peasant food recipes that have morphed into the haute cuisine of today, roadsters too have shed their humble beginnings. All steel examples are worth a mint, and even the nice ‘glass ones are not exactly building themselves for free either.
That being said, there are still dedicated guys out there hunting down rough examples and building them as our hot rodding ancestors did, with scrap parts and pieces they have welded together. Their numbers are few but their work is great. In this collection of roadsters you will see some legit early hot rods, some drag race style cars, and lots of street rod style builds. Each one may share a basic shape but they all differ in technique, attitude, and finish!
