LS Fest 2015 Gallery: American Powertrain Track-X At NCM Motorsports Park

LS Fest 2015 Gallery: American Powertrain Track-X At NCM Motorsports Park

Not all of the action at the 2015 LS Fest is not happening on the grounds of Beech Bend Raceway. This year is the first year that the National Corvette Museum’s Motorsports Park has been involved in the fun, offering up a Track-X setup for the autocrossers to play on. We ran a Track-X in February in the Angry Grandpa Chrysler, and had a blast, so imagine a purpose-built race car doing the same. If you are unfamiliar with the Track-X concept, it’s easy: the NCM track can be split into halves.

One half gets cone gates and routes, like an autocross course, to break up the racing line and make driving a little more fun for the racers. It only took four minutes for the first victim to appear, a fourth-gen Firebird that oil-starved in a corner. After the car was drug off of the track, the owner fired it up and a monster rod knock told the tale. But not all was bad news…not at all! After yesterday’s track flooding, the competition aspect was removed and the second half of the track was opened up for fun runs, allowing participants to see the Corkscrew-like Sinkhole corner. Take a look at some of the players that braved the cool morning air to come out and play below!

Thanks to American Powertrain for sponsoring the Track Day at NCM!
