If all anyone wanted to do at the drag strip was to get to the finish line in the most consistent and efficient way possible, the world would be awash with dragsters and that would be a boring world. The racing of production bodied cars, or at last cars that are supposed to look like they have production bodies of some sort has been a huge part of the scene since this whole thing got off the ground. In this collection of photos we’re highlighting some of the coolest production bodied cars that we saw at the 2014 California Hot Rod Reunion. From Nash Metropolitans to thundering Camaro pro mods there was an array of great steel, fiberglass, and carbon fiber to stare at during the action at Famoso Raceway.
Wally Parks sure understood what it meant for the sport to have a healthy base of people racing cars that looked like cars and his work during the 1950s to entire manufacturers into the fray lead to the massive cultural explosion the sport had in the 1960s and 1970s. We feel that it is really important to have some show in your go and door cars certainly do with. They have flanks that can be painted, places where names can be applied, and they appeal directly to the hard core car guys who can look down from the stands, see a 1957 Chevy and relate to that car because their pop had one as a kid, they drove one to the track, etc. This is good stuff.
