It was a barn burning end to the 2017 J&A Service NHRA pro mod season at Las Vegas last weekend. Troy Coughlin came into the race with about a two round lead on Mike Castellana who had lead the points for much of the year. The guys qualified fourth and fifth respectively which meant that if they advanced into round two, they’d face each other in a heads up matchup that would basically decide the championship.
12 races, tens of thousands of miles of truck and airline miles, days of testing, thousands of horsepower, and it was mano y mano to settle it all. It is a drag racing fan’s dream, right? This is how it should always happen. The two best cars after a season of bare knuckled competition running at each other like locomotives on the same track. It should make the hair on your next stand up. Seriously. It’s good stuff.
Outside of the obvious matchup there’s the crew chief battle between guys who have a lot of respect for each other. Frank Manzo and Steve Petty. These guys are among the best who have ever done their respective jobs and it is fun as hell to watch them compete. This run proved just how good both men are. Two totally different engine combos, to totally different transmission combos and they ran nearly identical elapsed times.
There are people who think that NHRA pro mod isn’t the best class in drag racing. Those people are wrong. Watch this.
NOW THAT IS A REAL RACE . I WISH ALL RACING WAS 1/4 MILE
With all the stuff I’ve bought from Jegs, I feel like one of the sponsors.
Way to go Troy
Bring it home !!!
