(Photos by David Whealon and Benoit Pigeon) – Virginia Motorsports Park’s summer of resurgence continues a couple weekends ago when the PDRA Firecracker Nationals rolled into town for some of the most intense eighth mile drag racing action the strip has ever seen. Yes, the temperatures were roughly equivalent to the surface of the sun but the action was even hotter than that! From the blown, nitrous, and turbocharged pro modifieds running in classes like Pro Nitrous and Pro Boost, to the killer motorcycles, Extreme pro stocks, and dozens upon dozens of competitors in top sportsman and top dragster, fans had loads of fun.
Ric Fleck won his first event in the Pro Boost category, Jason Harris a former world champion scored the win in Pro Nitrous, John Pluchino scored another win in the Extreme Pro Stock class, Ehren Litten took the Pro Extreme Motorcycle win, engine man Darryl Hameetman won Outlaw 632, and Ken Quartuccio won Outlaw 10.5 on a set of drag radials in his new Corvette. Along with those winners, Derrick Brown and Chaz Silance won Top Dragster and Top Sportsmen respectively.
Anyone who left with hardware had a weekend to remember on the brand new and bad fast surface at Virginia Motorsports Park. The place is one in a million and we cannot wait to get back!
