$20K Gets You In The Seat Of This Clean, Big Block Chrysler Powered, Pro Street 1966 Charger – Good Buy?

The 1966 Charger is certainly on the unloved side of things when compared to its slightly younger brothers produced later on in the 1960s and into the early 1970s. Maybe it was the Marlin-esque fastback, but they just don’t get loved up on like the “General Lee” era cars do. We think that is a shame because these cars were great performers and with their plunging rear roofline, they certainly have a unique look. Having grown up in a neighborhood where one of these style Chargers was constantly being cruised by a lusted after by a little kid (me) it probably makes sense why I am wanting to get my mitts on this nicely priced pro street version.

We think that this car is a great deal for just over $40,000. It comes with a 451ci big block Chrysler stroker, a built 727 transmission, a roll cage installed, solid looking body, and you could literally cruise it the second it pulled into your driveway or better yet, drive it home! The one thing we would work on is the interior. We’d ditch the 1980s looking shifter, rip those red seats out at the first opportunity and work on getting the dash back to a more factory looking appearance. That’s little winter work, though. This thing has a great look and the old school polished Centerline wheels are a perfect addition to the car (in our opinion anyway). Sure they hit a little 1980s but we’re loving the look. Mopar guys will likely want to to whack the forward facing scoop off the car and we kind of do as well. That high rising single plane intake may make some sort of lump necessary, though.

Big block power, solid body, very clean looking chassis and under car area, what’s not to love about this thing? (Other than the seats). Finally, a guy who has priced his stuff right!

Very nice, Definitely swap to some plain black seats, change the wheels to something less dated and throw a bunch of nitrous at that 451

    Good buy?

Factor in shipping and import duty that’s still going to be less than £20,000 in the UK!

    Anybody got £20,000 going spare?

Never liked the 66 and 67 Charger styling, so to me, it doesn’t matter what color, engine, wheels – whatever. It’s nothing more than a Coronet with a fastback roof added. I’ll take the Coronet over the Charger any day of the week.

Always liked this generation of Charger….This one nees a little to really pop my top but for 20K…I think it is a good buy….

-Bring the interior back to stock
-Get rid of the red wire cover crap in the engine bay
-Lose that generic looking shifter and add a B&M Pro Stick.
-I feel it needs a taller tire out back…I am not sure if it is possible but to my eye…it needs mroe meat….

Simple changes that would alter the car for the better and could be done while driving the snot out of it….Someone send ol’ Joe 20K….I’m good for it…

20K? Hell yeah! I’d have to toss out those seats for some stock ones, swap some newer rims on there. Otherwise, really nice car.
