Keith and Jeff Dorton from Automotive Specialties are known across the country and across the globe as two of the most serious, innovative, and all around bad assed engine guys alive in the world today. Since 1965 Keith Dorton has been in the engine building game and his mills have won races on virtually level of racing competition from the most entry level sportsman categories to the height of professional competition. He has also had a great impact on land speed racing over the years with his motors carrying cars to record setting performances and that is where we pick up the story of this little monster that can certainly punch out of it weight class.
For years, the Hot Rod Hoodlums have raced the 534 1934 Ford roadster in a few different classes. Different displacements, different body configurations, and different records have all been the hallmark of this car. The guys decided to get really serious on the car this year and enlisted the Dortons to build them a little 260ci “E” engine that would let them go out there and chase records with speeds n the 230 mph role! Norton answered with the little bomb you see in the video below which is a destroyer of a SB2 Chevy NASCAR engine that is force fed by a front mounted ProCharger, uses custom Mahle pistons, 6″ Carillo rods, a brand new SB2 block and used SB2 heads.
This engine made more than 1,000hp on the dyno and was more potent than any of the guys expected it to be. So potent in fact that when they were done with tuning they actually tuned the action to 950hp in order to keep the valve train and other elements of the engine happy.
This video is legitimately awesome and the engine is too! Give it a watch below.
