(Photos by Joe Grippo) – It was the coolest gathering of Ford people, card, and history that anyone had ever seen and our man Joe Grippo was on the scene to check it out. The 50th Cobra Jet Anniversary celebration at the 2018 NMCA All-American Nationals was amazing. There was drag racing, there was a gala dinner, and there were historic cars both modern and old being displayed. Along with that there were the luminaries that made the Cobra Jet a reality from the Tasca family to the engineers like Bill Barr who physically designed the production engine. This was a celebration of all things Cobra Jet and Cobra Jet was a platform, not just a Mustang. You’ll see what we mean in the images below.
NMCA did a really nice job with Ford Performance on this one. The dinner on Friday night had 550+ people at it, all there to hear stories and learn more about the cars that they love. The drag racing classes were setup to allow Cobra Jet owners who were not seasoned strip veterans to go out and have some fun. Many, many did. Then there were the articles of historic reverence like the car Al Joniec won the 1968 NHRA Winternationals with and other very well known Cobra Jet powered racers through history. We have multiple galleries coming. Here’s number one!
I’d love to see more. Some real historic CJ’s there.
