(Photos by Chris Mohring) – The SportsNationals events that the NHRA holds have an interesting history. They were part of the program in the 1970s and early 1980s and then they kind of disappeared. The idea came roaring back in the 2000s and the races have been going strong ever since. As you’d expect from the name of the race, the SportsNationals highlight sportsman classes, which is what you’ll see in this gallery. From stock eliminator to alky cars, the SportsNationals events give these racers the chance to earn some big money and also to earn some big recognition against some of the best sportsman competitors in the world. These events draw the hitters out from all corners.
Chris Mohring was at the recent event held at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio and he filed a couple of huge galleries of photos. This first one features stock and super stock racers with their wheels up. In nearly 200 photos there are less than five that do not depict a car with the front end way up in the air. That is how these classes roll and that is why fans love them. Big wheelies, classic recognition, fan favorites. The math is pretty simple.
