The American Powertrain Parting Shift: Wheels Up And Grabbing 5-Gears In The Eighth!

The Ozark Mountain Super Shifters are an awesome group of gear banging races from the central part of the USA. They can be found at various tracks throughout the year and those include locales like Topeka, St. Louis, and a host of others. Like other groups on the order of the Ozark Mountain Super Shifters, these are guys who throw down the old school way with a clutch pedal and lots of screaming RPM. In this particular video we see racer Rick Lawson leave with the wheels up grabbing 5-gears in the eight mile! The little small block powered machine sounds amazing and the precision of the gear changes is perfect.

Drag racing by definition is a sport of refinement. In fact, I was just having a long conversation at the airport earlier this week with a professional racer who is concerned that some of the classes have had the excitement refined out.I agree with him that it is a fact. Why? Ironically, the runs that fans love to watch so much are not the ones the racers and crew chiefs do. They want cars that haul in a straight line, make efficient use of every horsepower, and make it to the stipe first. Fans want to see drivers battling and cars not he ragged edge of control. It is an interesting topic to chew the fat on.

Stick shift drag racing is the same boat only a little bit different. Why? While an automatic may be better at doing some things on its own as less skilled humans, there’s nothing more fun than watching a driver wing the motor and side step the clutch off of the starting line. The moment of anticipation followed by the moment of violence and fun is not easily explained. This video is the epitome of all that. We cannot image the fun inside the car experiencing this. We know how much fun it is to watch, that’s for sure.

We love this video and Rick Lawson’s car!
