An F1 Race Car Is Fast, But Can It Take On A Funny Car? Daniel Ricciardo Gave It A Shot!

An F1 Race Car Is Fast, But Can It Take On A Funny Car? Daniel Ricciardo Gave It A Shot!

A Formula One racer is a marvel of technology. A screaming engine that can rev fast and hard enough to make a superbike jealous combined with the forefront of tire technology, suspension geometry, aerodynamic studies, a gearbox that is held together with the saliva of a unicorn, a driver built like a horse jockey but with faster senses, and that cranium-splitting noise they emit when they are turned up to 10…yes, an F1 car, if you ignore anything with the word “Ecclestone” attached to it, is an amazing accomplishment and in the right hands, a surgical tool. If you want to use that analogy, however, the funny car is the sledgehammer wielded by a large individual who has one focus in mind, and that is using that blunt force to absolutely destroy you and your dreams. It might not be as exotic and as high-tech as the Formula 1 car, but the stunning force in which the funny car channels violence and noise and turns it into forward motion is something to behold.

Daniel Ricciardo brought his Red Bull Infinity Formula 1 out to the Perth Speed Fest and somehow, managed to end up on the starting line next to Craig Glassby’s flopper. The F1 car ran the track to a very respectable 10.5 second quarter. Now, about that funny car’s run…

The big match up. Daniel Ricciardo breaks into the tens in the Red Bull F1 car but it's not enough to beat Craig Glassby's drag car. #perthspeedfest

I wish somebody would kill that mosquito!

With a bit less revs off the line and the launch control off the F1 car might have beaten the funny car off the line but who gives a damn anyway?

awesome to see! though just a little bit of a mismatch, not too many drag cars that can compete against a TAFC much less a road race car, but still very cool! but obviously that F1 was dialed wayyyy down on the launch to keep from breaking anything on that sticky track, they was a very slow 60′ but you can see it start to gain past the 330 or so. But what I really want to see is more of those 5+ girls in short shorts in the background on the FC lane.. 😀

what was the mph on the F1 car? Last time I saw one try drag racing, it ran in the high 10s, but at 200+ mph.
