Another One Gone: The 2020 Holley National Hot Rod Reunion Has Been Cancelled

Another One Gone: The 2020 Holley National Hot Rod Reunion Has Been Cancelled

When December 31st rolls around, and we’re getting past the Holiday Hangover and moving on to a proper hangover, may the final toast before the ball drops include words that basically come out to say that 2020 will be the year that we will choose to forget. What hasn’t been affected at this point? What has gone untouched, unmolested, as if nothing happened? Outside of typical Internet venom, not much, we’re afraid.

The Holley Hot Rod Reunion is my annual homecoming event. My first on-site gig was the HRR in 2014, and every year since I’ve been all about this deal. Old cars, older cars, customs, rats, old-school drags, show cars like you wouldn’t believe, the opportunity for feature cars, the chance to talk with members of the community that I might not get to see next year, Cacklefest…I’m suffering in the heat and humidity so I’m allowed to bitch about it, but the Hot Rod Reunion is an event where every last drop of sweat, every moment baking under the sun is worth it.

Maybe next year won’t be a raging dumpster fire. We’d love to see our friends again and do what we love to do.

From NHRA:

“The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum officials announced today the cancellation of the 2020 Holley National Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA Insurance at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky.

“We made this difficult decision as we see the effects this pandemic is having on our country, fans, sponsors, and racers,” said museum executive director Martin Betz. “We believe this is the right decision given the escalation of COVID-19 cases in the state of Kentucky and the restrictions implemented by the state and Warren County.”

“For 17 years, Beech Bend Raceway has hosted the Holley National Hot Rod Reunion,” said Dallas Jones track owner.  “As much as we didn’t want to cancel this popular event, the health and safety of our fans, participants, and staff is our number one priority during these difficult times. We look forward to a bigger and better event in 2021.”

Event participants and ticket holders will receive more information from the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum via mail soon.”
