I love every form of drag racing I have ever seen and while my first hand experience with the world of dirt/sand drag racing is limited, I am constantly finding fascinating videos to watch. This awesome sand drag racing video highlights what makes this short sprint form of the sport so good. Shot at Newtown Dragway in Newtown, Virginia it was Import vs Domestic action and all the heavy iron came out to play. Import you say? Yeah, this form of racing exists everywhere including places like Puerto Rico were it appears some of these racers are from.
The engine and power adder diversity here is also amazing. Four bangers, inliners, V8 engines of all sizes. There’s nitrous, turbochargers, centrifugals, roots blowers, screw blowers, and on and on. Oh, there’s also dragsters altereds, Jeeps, buggies, and other configurations that I’m not quite sure what to label. The course is about a football field, the tires are the big scoopers that allow these things to act like Satan’s power shovels. They heave clay to the sky and 100ft behind them. It’s all bad ass.
There’s also a throwback element to this sport that modern asphalt drag racing no longer sees. You may not agree with it but seeing dragsters completely naked with no bodies, drivers with no gloves, superchargers with no blower bags, etc is all kind of bad ass. Dangerous? Sure. Are these adults that signed up for it? You bet. Unpretentious? Hell yes it is.
Press play and watch the dirt fly!
