BangShift Breaking News Exclusive: John Mihovetz Runs 5.92/248 At Pomona! First Mod Motor In The 5s – We Have The Slip!

Just minutes ago John Mihovetz ran 5.92/248mph to break a performance barrier he has flirted with several times in his modular motor powered car. Mihovetz recently Ran six flat and was knocking on the five second door. Today he smashed through at the NHRA Finals at Pomona, California. This is the first modular engine car to run 5-seconds in the quarter mile and John becomes the third driver to ever make a five second run in NHRA Competition Eliminator.

We’ll have more details and follow up next week. For now, check out the time slip! Congratulations to John Mihovetz and his team. They fought HARD for this one!!!!

A huge congrats to John, that little 281 is running pretty decent!

Actually it isn’t the first 5 second Comp Eliminator pass, that was a few years ago in Mission , Jirka Kaplan in a AA/AM roadster, First door car in Comp maybe, though they do have a AA/PM class in Comp and i’d be surprised if nobody has run a 5 in it,

Tom, I didn’t say it was the first Comp 5, it says third. This was the first modular motor in the 5s. It was NOT on a 10.5 tire. That is incorrect information that the DRC guys posted.

Well done! That’s amazing! I hope guys like this keep the Mod motor alive and well in performance circles.

DragRaceCentral says in the Qualifying notes…
“POW! For only the third time in NHRA history, we have a five second pass in Comp.! Big power on a 10.5 tire!”

I assume the other 5 was in AA/PM Pretty sure none of the other two were on tires less than 14″ wide.

Impressive! I’ve been cheering for John and the Accufab team for a while now. It’s awesome to watch 281ci with a factory Ford block and cylinder head do what they are doing with it. Hopefully we see more modulars follow in their footsteps! Technology and boost is proving to be a solid replacement for displacement….

It would be interesting to see how project fatlane located elsewhere on Bangshift would run with this set-up versus the bbc with a blower will run. do you think it will run 5.92 with a bbc?
