Well Hung: What To Do When Racepak Gets An Old Budweiser King Funny Car Body

Lets face it, every single drag racing fan on the planet has at one time or another wished they had a funny car body to hang on the wall in their house or shop. And at some point many of us have had the opportunity to get one for little or nothing. And usually, the conversation with your wife goes something like this. “Holy crap honey, Bob has a funny car body and I can get it for nothing if I just go get it. It is going to look bitchin hanging in the living room.” which is met with something like this from your beautiful better half “Excuse me?!!!” which comes with a look that clearly says “Have you lost your f’ing mind?”. Your response is, “Well then we can use it as an awning for the back patio! Or we can set it in the corner of the yard! It will look so cool lit up at night. I think I have some extra spotlights in the garage!” The sound of you feet hitting the floor on the way toward said garage is overpowered by the “Force” that grips you when your wife uses those Jedi powers to stop you in your tracks. The call to Bob saying that you don’t have room for it is the same one he’s heard from all the other people he reached out to.

But what if you had a really cool shop with space to put something like this in? Or if you were one of the coolest companies in racing and you had a warehouse full of cool race car parts? Wouldn’t that be the place to put something like this?

The answer is HELL YES IT IS!!!

So when the guys at Racepak got an old Kenny Berstein Budweiser King funny car body they knew they had to do some fun stuff with it. A few videos, some cool photos of it sitting on the Crusher Camaro’s funny car chassis, and a few other games and it was time for it to find a home somewhere in the shop. While hanging it on the wall came up, so did hanging it from the ceiling. That was met with arguments about it blocking the lights, falling, etc, etc, etc, etc. Tim Anderson at Racepak told us that it was like hanging a picture in your house, only worse. Instead of you lovely better half telling you a little to the left, a little to the right, it was all the people in the building. Ultimately it got hung though. And well hung it is.

Check it out.

  1. Piston Pete

While I salute the intent and effort, in the end it just looks stupid hanging upside down.

There’s just something weird and spooky about race cars hanging upside down. It’s a very unnatural position for a race. Yes they do crash – is this what it represents?

  3. It's 80 degrees in Hawaii. . . again

I would build a diorama upside down , track, starting line. Fill the tire, air scoop holes add headers. Full burnout mode. There have been a bunch of bars and restaurants with cars upside down on the ceiling. This body had history. In my house, it would be a lamp or desk or lawn ornament! Aloha.
