Every hot rodder either has one of those red plastic rings that has multiple wheel lug patterns in it, or wishes they did. I’ve got several, as I’ve bought them at the swap meet for a few dollars on different occasions. When I’m smart, I carry one in my pocket while roaming the swap meet so I can confirm wheel bolt patterns, but sometimes you forget and have to go buy one quick to figure out what you are looking at. Of course a tape measure works as well, but they don’t sell those at the swap meets usually.

This plastic rings have been around forever and work well for sure, but they are only as good as the bolt patterns that are included in the ring. This works great if you are looking to test a wheel to make sure it has a Ford or Chevy or Dodge pattern in it. But if you actually want to know what pattern is in a particular wheel that isn’t included on the ring, you are out of luck without a bunch of rings. They usually only have 3 or 4 patterns on each one, so you have to have several.

But this new tool here actually measures the spacing for you! It isn’t just comparing a known pattern, but rather measures the pattern so you know exactly what a set of wheels is and I dig it.
