You Should Dyno Your Car, BUT Here’s How to Avoid a Hub Dyno Disaster – Horrifying Video Breakdown

I’m a huge fan of dyno testing engines, or of using a chassis dyno for tuning. A hub dyno is just another variation on the chassis dyno and is a great tuning tool as well. Thousands and thousands of cars and trucks are tested on a dyno each and every day around the world, and the vast majority of them never have a problem, but accidents do happen and they happen with engine dynos, chassis dynos, and hub dynos. This scenario here, and the video that is being discussed, are referring to a hub dyno but this is not a video that is bashing on the shop in question or hub dynos in general. In fact, Joe is only doing this video to share some safety tips and to encourage people to use a hub dyno.

Watch the video and you’ll learn some stuff that will help you make sure your car or truck is taken care of when at the shop. Again, accidents happen but having a couple of sets of eyes is always better than one. If you take your car to the dyno shop, and are there for the testing, you should pay attention and if something makes you uncomfortable or makes you question something, there is nothing wrong with saying so. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Our own Brian Lohnes had issues on the chassis dyno on two occasions when he broke a driveshaft and a transmission because the speed that the rollers were spinning was way to high for the stock driveshaft in his car. Luckily nobody was hurt, but it was a close call, and totally avoidable. Be safe out there folks, and have fun!
