If you’ve ever looked at holes in a tube on a chassis where wiring or cables run out of the hole, you’ve probably seen one of two things. Either the hole was just drilled and cleaned up, or in the case of a race car chassis a doubler plate might have been added to reinforce the hole. In either of those examples it is unlikely that the hole was flared, but it sure would look better if it was. And it’s not just about looks, as flaring the hole will also give some relief to the wire or cable that is coming through it as there will be no sharp edge to rub against.
In this new series from our friends at Bennetts Customs Co in Australia we’re going to get a bunch of lessons on all kinds of fabrication projects. This one is the first and shows you how to flare holes in a tube that is being used to hold the spark plug wires on a traditional hot rod. Check it out, we’re sure you’ll dig it.
