I can’t even estimate the number of times I have heard someone say they didn’t use their chute because they either don’t know how to pack it or because they think it is so much work to do so. That’s just stupid. It isn’t that hard. And it only take a couple of minutes. Plus it is awesome pulling the chute, and it can save your life. I don’t just mean if your stuff can’t stop, although that is important, I’m talking about keeping you straight and true going through the shutdown area at your favorite dragstrip. If you are out of shape, the best way to correct that car is to pull the chute. It will straighten out every time and save you from crapping yourself if you get real sideways at speed.
Yeah, the parachute on a race car is not just for slowing you down. It is for slowing you down safely and straight. That is the important part here. So don’t be the guy or gal who gets out of shape and never pulls the chute to save yourself. If you crash your car because you failed to recover, when your parachute would have easily straightened out the car, you deserve a ration of crap from friends, the announcer, and your local tech guy. It’s just too easy to avoid this kind of disaster.
To show you how to pack your parachute, we’re going to share a classic Tim McAmis video on just how to do it. Watch and learn.
that was pretty good and informational—-but I want to see him do an older 16 line chute. then stuff it into the pack with the spring pushing back at you. oh, and by yourself–with no help—LOL
