We love our tool tests around here and one of our favorite tool testing creators is Project Farm. We don’t share all their videos, but we sure to share a lot of them. They are thorough, more scientific than the average person can duplicate, and they clearly define their results. So when they posted up this new video talking about step bits, I knew I had to check it out. Everyone loves a step bit, until you don’t. I refer to them as the World’s Greatest Implement of Hogging as nothing hogs a big hole faster. But at the same time, crappy ones suck. If you have used many of them, you know that the quality can vary dramatically.

as with any cutting tool, correct feeds, speed with coolant will make the tooling last. also any tap, die, drill, endmill or insert made of cobalt or better will always beat h.s steel.
