I know that a lot of “normal” people will buy a compact impact driver to drive screws and do DIY stuff at home, but they also have a place in your toolbox for working on cars. With the ever increasing number of driver bits that work with hex nuts and bolts of all sizes, along with many other automotive fasteners, it is no surprise that you can really use these in a lot of scenarios. In fact, my first experience with a small impact driver was at Westech Performance Group, where Steve Brule had a very compact Snap-On model that ran on 12 volts and was perfect for removing carburetor float bowl screws, valve cover hold down hardware, timing covers, oil pans, etc. But they are also great for removing interior fasteners, and small fasteners in general. In fact, you want one that isn’t too powerful so that you can use it to put things back together without worrying about stripping out every hole.

In this video from the Torque Test Channel you’ll see these compact, and budget minded compact impact drivers, put to the test.

Are budget brand compact impact drivers worth it? We have no idea, but we CAN tell you how close they are getting these days to options closer to the top.

Comparing Milwaukee’s oldest 2463 model & latest M12 3453 vs options that are as wallet friendly as possible, including WORKPRO, Nawin 16, SeeSii 16V, and SKIL ID6744A-10.

We also bought the Hyper-Tough from Walmart which showed up last, but like their impact wrench with the included battery it stop/starts often and couldn’t complete testing without also requiring additional larger batteries, so was left out for this specifically budget episode for that. But can include in the future if you guys like, people last time thought we were making this stuff up so didn’t want to stir up another honest nest.
