You Ever Wonder Why Some Race Cars Just Don’t Leave Straight? Rear Steer. Here’s The Hows And Whys…

No matter how good the chassis under your race car is, if all of it is adjusted and aimed in the right direction then nothing is going to hook or go straight or be right. With that said, there are adjustments to be made after a car is setup correctly that will continue to improve the way that it goes down the race track. Have you ever watched the same car over and over again and realized that every single time it leaves the starting line it washes out left? Or maybe it’s right? Either way, sometimes, rather often times, the reason is incorrect rear steer settings in the car. Either too much or too little is making the car move around and go the wrong direction when it leaves the starting line.

Watch this video from Tim McAmis to learn more about this subject, and then you can be the smart one at the track who knows how to fix other people’s junk!

I have a 4-link/leaf car that dorsn’t exactly make tons of power. It dead hooks. I’ve played with the pre-load and given myself some surprises. I tweaked it to where it left absolutely as straight as a string. However, when the nose drpped at 115+, it took a puul to the right that was just about two notches past spooky.
I now have it so that it moves a tad left on the hit, but tracks absolutely dead nuts straight at the big end. I can literally coast the entire length of the shutdown with no hand on the wheel.
