We’re pretty outspoken around here about our love of Les Mayhew’s Nitro America videos, and his latest example may be the finest video of front engine nitro burners ever. Not only does Slingshot give you all the action, from perspectives you don’t usually see, but also gets you into the minds of the crazy bastards who race and tune them. Saying it’s the greatest front engine top fuel video ever is a bold statement, but we’re sticking to it.
Nostalgia Drag Racing is all the buzz, and despite the fact that we’ve been engrained in it for years, we’re still blown away at the excitement, cars, and growth that it’s seen over the past few years. Les has been one of those guys that, like us, dove straight into it in support of the sport and the people. If you’ve been living under a rock and never watched our live broadcasts from Famoso, Epping, and Bowling Green, then here is just a taste of what you’ve been missing.
We all know that Nostalgia Drag Racing doesn’t make anyone a real living. It’s not about that for these teams. It’s the challenge, the feeling that you are somehow stepping back in time just a bit, the drive to do something most people can’t or won’t.
Like riding a bull, nobody NEEDS to do it but try that logic out on one of the guys strapping into these machines and you’ll likely get the same reaction you would from the cowboy in the chute atop a bull.

R.I.P John Ewald After talking to John back in 2011 at nitro nights in Escondido Ca and sharing with him my dads plight with cancer and, how much that nights event took me back to when I was a kid and, all the times that my dad and I spent at the drags back in the 60’s and the mid 70’s. That night brought tears to my eyes and when I shared these thoughts with John he invited me to the “Cruisin For The Cure” car show in Orange, Ca. the next weekend. He told me that he would put my dad in his slingshot for a static start up, which he did. To see my dad in the seat of a running front engine AA/FD like the ones that were so much a part of our times together at the drags back in those day’s was magic. Thanks John for allowing me to do something special for my dad before his passing later that year.
