The Throttle Pedal Moves Both Ways – Why Jay Paynes Pro Mod Crash Was Unnecessary

I don’t mean to throw salt in the wounds of Jay Payne after this horrific crash in St. Louis, but man it could have all been avoided. I was told a long time ago that the throttle pedal works both ways. Meaning you can not only give, but also take away, throttle using the pedal in the two directions it is intended to work. Unfortunately, getting caught up in the moment and realizing you have a nose on someone will often times make veteran and rookie drivers alike push the situation to the limit and beyond.

Again, I’m not trying to make Jay feel bad. He’s not going to care what I say anyway, but I’m a fan. I see him and Shelly on a regular bases flying back and forth to events, we are often in the same restaurants after the races in Pomona, and they are a good family of racers that I have enjoyed watching my entire life. But he screwed up here. He was out of shape from 60 feet on, as it was never going straight down the race track, and winning or not the smart thing was to lift and coast down the track to race another day.

We’re glad that Jay is okay, as they can build another car, but man we hate to see this happen when it was avoidable. As we all know, if you race enough it is not “if” you will crash, but “when” you will crash. Thankfully Jay was in a very well built car, wearing all the appropriate safety gear.

Here’s the video. Check it out.
