Watch Automated Fire Suppression Put Out A Dyno Fire At BluePrint Engines!

Fire can be scary. Whether in a car, in a house, or on the dyno. And we’ve heard stories, like the one earlier this year where Taylor Lastor’s entire engine building business burnt to the ground, where dyno fires have cause catastrophic damage, injuries, and more. Which is why most dyno facilities incorporate fire suppression systems consisting of sprinklers, CO2 delivery systems, Halon, Cold Fire, etc. Certainly saving a customer’s engine, and dyno components, is a priority should we find ourselves on fire in the dyno, but more important is the rest of the building. With rare exception, most dyno facilities consist of a room or two within a larger structure. Containing any fire, and keeping it within those rooms so as to avoid damaging the larger structure is key.

This is why the guys at BluePrint engines just tested out their dyno fire suppression system in their new facility in Kearney Nebraska. After all, you don’t want to move into a giant new manufacturing and assembly facility and then have a dyno fire burn the place to the ground!

Check out the test, and just how effective the CO2 is.

We had Halon for many years at the EPA labs but it’s a CFC compound so (while still approved) the Gov safety folks had us switch to AFFF which is an aqueous foam product. CO2 also works great and I have CO2 fire extinguishers in the house and the shop. A note – CO2 is not very effective on paper or wood fires but I can drag the hose in for that.

Good all over BluePrint for making this video available. Too few folks think about safety and it’s a BIG DEAL!!!
