From the moment a shell of a 1955 Chevrolet was wheeled out of a backyard on a cart and onto a trailer, the car that is known as “Blasphemi” has been a major part of the scene. It’s Mike Finnegan’s baby, and it’s made the journey from rough but ready to an absolutely gorgeous unit that is so clean that it’s surprising that he absolutely kicks it in the guts when he drags it onto the track. In fact, it’s because of one of his heavier-handed treatments that has resulted in the episode you are about to watch here. You see, Finnegan took the ’55 on Drag Week 2018 and after running his first 8-second quarter in the car, he realized that he could run faster, that he left some time on the starting line. Unfortunately, “one more run” always means something’s going to go down. In Finn’s case, that would be a valve into a piston, which gouged a hole straight through…nevermind any other associated carnage. This is where more engine work for Blasphemi had to happen, and now, there’s a ton of grunt coming out of the Hemi that was on display at SEMA 2018.
Speaking of SEMA 2018, the car now has a date with destiny. Actually, the date is February 8th, 2019. That’s when Blasphemi is going head-to-head against the “Tri 5 By Fire” 1955 Chevy that Jon Chase from Hoonigan. Reportedly, the bet is going to be for beards. Finnegan has had a full beard for a bit, but it’s nowhere in the league of Chase’s majestic facial fur. We just hope that somebody live-streams the scene when the bet is won!
