Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota was in the news yesterday but for reasons it really could have gone without. The track was at the epicenter of a massive and very powerful series of storms in the area that produced incredible winds that really did a number on the NHRA national event facility. That thing that looks like a giant DNA helix in the lead photo? That is several sections of stands that were literally folded up and rolled over like they were part of a pretzel. Multiple trees were downed, the roofs were ripped off a few of the buildings and the place has a lot of work to do in preparation for its stop on the Mello Yello drag racing tour that is coming in about a month.
We know how rabid the fans of drag racing are in the Brainerd area because the place has a full schedule and all kinds of events so we know that you love the facility and they are in need of your help. The race track is looking for volunteers to help them clean up. We don’t know the specific jobs but we do know that there’s a lot of work to be done removing debris, moving stuff, and fixing said roofs, signs, and other aspects of the track that were damaged in the storm. We hate to see the place that is so well kept get battered, but it sure took a licking from mother nature. More proof that you really never know what is coming next, right?
