Call us easily entertained, but if you bring a group of badass cars together on a dragstrip in the middle of the night for some good old-fashioned fun, we will be right there for every moment of the action. Turbo? Nitrous? Whatever…we want more of this! Open up the strip, bring out the big guns in town who think they have what it takes, and to borrow a phrase from NASCAR, “Have at it, boys!” And have at it they did at Tulsa Raceway Park…everything from street cars with a serious attitude issue to full-tilt machines pulled up to the lines for an instant-green, no time run. We dig everything that Urban Hillbilly Videos caught on film, but the early 1970s Chevelle that torques itself up just might be our favorite. Compared to the turbo cars it might seem mild, but we have a sneaking suspicion that somewhere in this A-body’s lifetime, there’s a long trail of very embarrassed stoplight opponents that have seen this bronze machine’s taillights.
The Midnights have been a Tulsa tradition for decades! I never cared for them, it was like going to a rock concert, a bunch of drinking and stoners, at least back when I used to go. But to each his own.
As usual, Tulsa has never been a Mopar town, and this video shows that. Not one Mopar shown…
You should take a trip out there, its nothing like it used to be. We used to call it the midnights fights and maybe a drag race a would break out. Its not like that anymore. I take my kids out there all the time. Its clean safe and allot of fun. However you are right not many mopars out there. Mostly GM stuff.
“….stoplight opponents” ?
Oh yeah, I forgot; we fantasize about street racing until the bodies pile up, then it’s “take it to the track you idiots”. Welcome to BangShift!
