Thanks to Dawn Mazi-Hovsepian for the tip on this sweet gasser video which was taken during the first round of eliminations at the recently held Gasser Reunion event in Thompson, Ohio. I attended the first one of these in 2002 and it has been growing and thriving ever since. One of the attractions to the event is seeing stuff like the Ohio Outlaw AA/Gassers compete and beat each others brains in. This video is a pretty good education in the “It ain’t over ’till its over,” category. Why? Well the dude we are riding with is Steve Crook who is driving his “Blew By You” shoebox Chevy gasser that he’s campaigned for a few years now. This is a nasty car and it is really quick….when the gas pedal is depressed to the floor.

See, during this run Cook got way out on his competitor and decided to burp the throttle to save the equipment. The only problem with this strategy is that his competitor had not given up the fight yet and as soon as he blipped the throttle, the guy drove around him and stole a win. As you’d expect Crook is a little less than pleased with himself and it shows both in his language and his demeanor. Very angry with himself and telling anyone that would listen what he did to hand the round to a slower compettor was all for naught this season.

From the burnout to the pulling back into the pits, this is a fun watch and certainly gives you some insight into the mind of a guy who just made a bad decision on the track. The good news is that his car is fine and he’ll be back to fight another day.
