I have certainly seen and called my fair share of top end weirdness on the drag strip but all of it has been witnessed from the comfy confines of the timing tower at whatever strip it was at. While the tower provides a safe view point from a quarter mile away, it certainly never provides the level of excitement that this in-car video can provide and show was really happens down on the “big end” when one or both cars lose traction or suffer some sort of mechanical issue. In this case the car in the right line, a V8 powered turbocharged Datsun apparently kicks a rod or two out of the party and then gets into its own goup.
The amazing thing from our end is how the guy in the Datsun prevented that car from rolling over or swapping ends a bunch of times while sliding. While it may not look like it from the surface, he sure is. The camera perspective from the Mustang is perfect because this all happened in front of him on the track and the camera is on the passenger side of the roof/passenger side would be mind.
Pay close attention to the car on the right side of the frame because that is the one that earned “unintentional stunt driver of the weekend” award!
Thanks to the multiple tipsters who sent us a ton of emails on this link.

Nice of the ‘Stang driver to stop, too.
Went past the Mustang pretty quick too……..
FWIW That 240 holds the record for a stock 4.8L LS motor @ 8.80s@ 150 plus. It has allot of passes on that $500 junk yard motor and the only mods are a Z06 cam, head studs and valve springs.
Glad to see that he is OK.
That 8.80 translates to what? 12 seconds in a real drag race. Not very impressive for such a light car.
Its 2900 ibs and went 880s in street trim and pump gas. Im the one who built the car and ran it to the record. I sold it to the guy who spit the rods out
That is 8.80s quarter mile. What does your car run again?
8.80s is not impressive for a street car that drives to and from the track? Its 2900 pounds like Craig said so take it to 3300 pounds like most average street cars and it would still run low 9s.
Nothing like a 440 six pack im sure.LMAO!
The Datsun didn’t flip because it’s rear tires spun sideways into the grass.
