Is A Collection Of 300 Big Block Chevy Bare Blocks Worth $500,000? The Guy Selling Them On eBay Hopes That It Is

Is A Collection Of 300 Big Block Chevy Bare Blocks Worth $500,000? The Guy Selling Them On eBay Hopes That It Is

$1,666.66 per block. That’s the math you were just wondering about after reading this headline. It is pretty impressive to amass a collection of 300 stamps, let alone 300 engine block of the Chevy Rat motor variety. Tracy Performance in Michigan is the outfit that has collected all of these engine blocks and they are the guys who have the whole lot of them up for sale. There are no W-motors in the group, no rare aluminum blocks in the group, no heads, cranks, intake manifolds, or any of that stuff. This is 300 iron blocks that range from early 396s all the way through 454s made into the 1970s. There are a few tall deck blocks in there as well if you are wanting to build stroker engines. If you can believe it, there is 70,000lbs of iron here. At today’s smelting prices that’s about $7,000 so you can sleep easy to know that this is not an attractive buy for someone in the scrapping business.

Obviously this group has some valuable casting numbers in it but there has to be a bunch of blocks that fall on the other end of the spectrum as well. Is it possible that the average of everything in this lot is nearly $1,700? It seems high to us but we’re not in the restoration business nor are we out scouting engine block prices daily. What do you think? The seller did a great job explaining what’s here so you should read the description below to get the full idea of what this is all about.

Thanks to Pizza and Doughnuts for the tip!

It took us over 40 years of hard work and lots of big bucks to accumulate this collection of hard to find big blocks and you can acquire it with the click of a button on your computer if you have the proper financial qualifications!  See our “NOTE” below.  We have been “The Place” to buy the dated big block for the last 30 plus years for the restoration of your Corvette, Camaro, Chevelle, Impala, Biscayne, El Camino, Monte Carlo, Caprice, Nova, etc.  These blocks also belong in Chevy Pickups, Suburbans, Yukons and GM Semi Tractors as well as Dump, Straight and Stake Trucks.  These blocks are also used in many marine applications like Ski Boats, Off Shore Race Boats, Cabin Cruisers, etc. including Sea Ray, Fountain, Baja, Apache, Cigarette, Ocean Express, Cruisers Inc. and many others.  Some of them are also used for stationary engines like generators, pump motors and many other industrial applications.  These are also used in hot rods, retro rods, rat rods, street rods, muscle cars, show cars, drag racing cars, road racing cars, tractor pull tractors, truck pull trucks, monster trucks, dirt track race cars, asphalt oval race cars, sand racers, sand rails, dragsters, Super Stock Cars, and many other performance applications.

These blocks are all racked up in our warehouse, (see the attached pictures), on a 30″ deep pallet rack system, 85′ long by 20′ high.  For easy access, these bare blocks are stored 10 rows high and under our 10 ton walking power crane system.  We also have fork lifts to help load them.  These items will require shipping by at least two 45′ enclosed semi-truck van trailers as the total weight is over 70,000 pounds, (Over 35 Tons!), and it will require a commercial shipping address with a truck dock and a fork lift.  A residential address can’t be used.  If you furnish you own semi-trucks, we will help you load them for no extra charge!

For clarrification purposes, this listing does not include any of our “Rare” Chevrolet, 1958 to 1965 348 or 409 “W Engine” Blocks, which were considered to be the predecessor to the Mark IV Big Block Engines.  Since they are a different breed of engines, they will be offered in other current and future listings.  This auction also does not include any of our thousands of old dated 1955-1990 Small Block Chevy Blocks, some of which are already available in other listings.  Check our VettePartsMan “Tracy Performance Corvette Parts Store” and look under the category, (ENGINES) for the small blocks.  Mark us as one of your favorite sellers and make sure you sign up to get emails with our new listings.  It should be obvious, but to eliminate questions, we will state that there are NO Aluminum 3946052 ZL-1 blocks, Yenko Blocks or 495″ or 510″ aluminum Chevy Can Am or Marine Blocks included in this sale!

We are only selling bare blocks.  All of the intake manifolds, carburetors, exhaust manifolds, cylinder heads, camshafts, crankshafts, connecting rods, flywheels, harmonic damper balancers, valve covers, timing covers, oil pans, windage trays, oil pumps, fuel pumps, distributors, water pumps and all other external accessories have already been removed from these big blocks as we sell them as individual bare blocks, not used assemblies.  We disassemble these down to bare blocks to make it easier and quicker to inspect them.

a friend has about 30 blocks, most of the full short block variety, some heads too, will be happy to know his stash is worth more then $50K—LOL

I think you stated correctly that this whole thing is worth about……$7000. I don’t know anyone looking for this stuff anymore much less building one. I wish them luck.

I can but a complete 454 with, heads, intake, everything, for about half what these guys want for each bare block.
The popularity of the LS engines has only brought old school big block prices down in my area.

Way too high – even ppl that want these things can get them way cheaper even the rare ones. They’re everywhere!

Maybe there is one drunken billionaire no good at math who just needs 300 bare blocks. Catch him at the right moment…
But i don’t think another person amongst the other six billion of us would pay even 10% of that silly asking price. I’m not sure a 366 block is worth anything over scrap price.
