If there is one nightmare no racer wants to face it is any sort of fluid leaking on to a drag slick when a car is launching or heading down the race track. With typically locked rear axles one tire getting in the sauce causes some really bad stuff to happen in a really quick time frame.
Drag racer Pete Youhill had this experience at the 2016 Mopar EuroNationals and he was nearly involved in a very bad wreck but because of his quick reflexes and the quickness of the other car, it was merely a cleanup and a few minutes to collect himself instead of a mangled race car. Oh, he also got to exit the track in a way he likely never had done before, driving backwards past the starting line!
The best news for Youhill is the fact that the car in the other lane is a legit rocket and it was waiting to leave the starting line as they were bracket racing. As Youhill got in trouble, that car went ripping past him missing his wayward machine by inches…or less.
