The voice that defined the NHRA for generations and did so much more is finally getting the honor he is due. Dave McClelland will be inducted into the Motorsports Hall Of Fame of America on June 29th. McClelland spent the vast majority of his life in the sport of drag racing.
Announcing was but one of the things he did. Dave ran race tracks, acted as an NHRA executive, was involved in racing series from around the globe, and in general BangShifty terms lived the life of a completely awesome, bad ass guy. He deserves this because he and his voice were the soundtrack for this sport’s formative years.
Dave has stepped away from many of his various commitments in order to spend more time with his family and his wife. He deserves it for sure. Thee’s lots of lost time that happens when you are out on the road yelling into a microphone. We speak with authority on that topic.
From the bottom of our hearts, CONGRATS Mac! You earned it.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 7, 2016) – “The Voice of the NHRA,” Dave McClelland, will be inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) at the 28th Annual MSHFA Induction Ceremony Presented by Bridgestone on June 29 at The Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach.
McClelland is one of the most legendary voices in all of motorsports and certainly the most legendary in the history of National Hot Rod Association drag racing. Thanks to McClelland’s years of NHRA-related work on ESPN, SPEED and The Nashville Network his face is very recognizable, too.
In addition to his work behind the microphone and in front of the camera, McClelland also has worked as was a race track executive and the NHRA’s publicity and public relations director.
Among the many honors he has received throughout his career is the 2013 Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award, which is presented annually to pioneers in the hot rod and automobile restoration industry.
“When Dave McClelland is inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, he will take his rightful place among the great voices in the history of racing,” said Ron Watson, president of the MSHFA. “He will join legends such as Ken Squier, Sid Collins, Tom Carnegie and Chris Economaki, who each had a significant impact on whatever form of motorsports they covered.”
McClelland joins Richard Childress, Gary Gabelich, Chip Ganassi, Bob Sweikert, Everett Brashear and Sam Posey in the MSHFA class of 2016.
Tickets for the 2016 induction ceremony can be purchased by calling 248.349.7223 or through the MSHFA website at www.mshf.com.
