(Photos by Bob Paxton) – For 13 years the Kontinentals car club has been putting on an awesome weekend of old school drag racing at Little River Dragway and after rain pushed them off their first date this year, they ran the event a couple of weeks later on the rain date and still packed the place. People have come to know and love this event, including us! In years past, Charles Wickam was our man on the scene at Little Rive Dragway but he went and hit a sweet truck show this year so shooter Bob Paxton sent us great photos from the gathering of cars that really capture the spirit of the sport. From zooty slingshot dragsters to flathead powered ‘buckets, this was yet another spectacular gathering of people and iron at the very cool little Texas track.
The rules for entry are pretty simple. They are as follows:
Traditionally-built hot rods, stock cars, gassers and dragsters, all American made 1963 and older are welcome to come have fun with some drag racing out on this great old dragstrip. Come “run what ya brung” – or just take in the sights and sounds of this unique event.
One of the cool things that we see happening with this type of event and the people coming to it is the fact that the cars themselves are evolving in some ways. Guys like Scott Brown who have vintage and worn looking old cars but power them with more modern engine combos. We’re in love with the diesel powered pickup that has been at the race for a the last couple of times and there are other examples in this gallery of old stuff with good new power that still has the right flavor.
This is the first of two collections of Bob Paxton photos we’ll run. Hit the link below to check them out!
