(Words and photos by Jacob Marshall) – We’ve been teasing you all week with coverage from the PDRA event at Texas Motorplex. Even with forecasts calling for rain most of the weekend, the turnout was immense. Pro Nitrous, Pro Extreme, Pro Boost, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman all showed up ready to cut the fog with insanely quick eighth mile passes. With Pro Nitrous cars pushing nearly 1000 cubic inches of pavement thumping raw displacement, you can literally feel these cars launch from well behind the starting line. But if the happy gas known as nitrous isn’t your style, then one look at the Pro Boost and Pro Extreme cars should fill your horsepower needs. With huge twin hairdryers and massive displacements, the Pro Boost class can only be described as epic. Stand too close to one as it spools and run the risk of being sucked in whole. And then there’s Pro Extreme. Two words; screw superchargers. I’ve seen a lot of drag racing, but few classes have left me reeling like Pro Extreme. And those are just three of the classes run at a PDRA event. Top Dragster, Top sportsman, Pro Extreme Motorcycle and Jr. Dragster are equally captivating, and each with their own unique set of challenges.
As you may have seen on Bangshift earlier this week Lizzy Musi unfortunately suffered a violent wreck while racing this weekend. While we are relieved to report that Lizzy is ok, her Pro Nitrous Dart is no more. Contained here are some of the last photos of the car before it met its end. There are some other elements to this gallery that are bitter sweet. John Stanley runs a PSI screw blown Cadillac CTS-V, and had his own share of troubles this weekend. While testing on Thursday night he had a quick meet and greet with the wall on the left side of the track. In fact, the pictures of his Caddy contained here are from that same pass. But thankfully his skills behind the wheel saved the car, and the damage was merely cosmetic, allowing him to continue with qualifying later that weekend.
All the cars that stayed through the rain to run were wicked machines, but included in the gallery are Pro Nitrous winner Tommy Franklin’s black and green Camaro, Pro Extreme winner Mustafa Buhumaid’s black Nas Camaro, and Pro Boost winner Kevin Fiscus blue and black ‘Stang. While eighth mile racing often gets a lot of hate, attend one PDRA event and I GUARANTEE it will change your perspective of 660 foot racing. It did for me.
Anthony Disomma did not win Pro Boost, Kevin Fiscus did!
