Drag Coverage: The $10,000 To Win Tuesday Night Pro Mod Shootout At Lancaster Dragway Was A Hit!

(Words and photos by Mike Brooks) – The last feature I sent to Bangshift was from last fall. At the time, the future of Lancaster International speedway & dragway was unsure. Many of us thought that would be the last race we’d ever see at the historical 1/8 mile track. Well, a lot has happened since that September night. The track owner put together a new management team that immediately started integrating a whole new plan for the track. Once the Buffalo snow melted last spring the staff began making vast improvements on the grounds. New signage, a little cleanup, some fresh paint, bleacher repairs, and some paving on both the oval track and the dragstrip are just the beginning of the relaunch of the track. The place is looking good and the future is bright for this local landmark.

One of the first premium events of the year was a Pro Mod shootout that went down the other night. The man behind the plan was Lancaster’s own Rob Kozak. His plan was to catch teams traveling east to the NHRA Englishtown event and entice them with a chance to grab part of a $10k purse. 14 local and regional teams took the bait and signed up for the event. The event also included a box/no box showdown for cash and prizes for non pro mod vehicles. The event was a hit!! Many racers and thousands of specatators filled the stands and the pits in one of the biggest turnouts in recent history. Not to mention it all went down on a Tuesday night. Yeah, a weekday! Ladies and Gentlemen, Lancaster is BACK!!! Bruce Boland took qualified #1 in his Willys bodied machine and also ran a 4.13 @ 164.85mph in the final to take out Mike Stawicki’s Corvette pro mod that ran a 4.81.

    ….It was 5k to win,10k overall payout.1k in box/no box.What a stroke of genius by Rob Kozak and Lancaster to secure the sponsors,and provide a great show.To see a crowd like this,lined up,waiting to get in,on a Tuesday nite…13 entries for an 8 car field???..again on a Tues night!!!Please Lancaster,keep it coming!!!
