(Photos by Steve Wilson Motorsports Photography) – Asbury, Missouri is home to historic Mo-Kan Dragway. The place has been going strong for more than 50 years and they host some of the coolest nostalgia style events in the country. It is a no-frills country drag strip and that’s the way we like ’em. Awesome shooter Steve Wilson was on hand for the track’s Spring Nostalgia Reunion race last weekend and he shared a nice gallery of photos with us. You’ll see wheelstanding action, a 1957 Chevy that is so awesomely wrong that it is right with respect to how it looks when launching, slingshots, Henry Js, and more.
In our eyes, tracks like Mo-Kan will always be more important than the big “mega-tracks” that are featured on television frequently. Why? Well, tracks like Mo-Kan are local institutions. Generations of people have competed there, spectated there, and grown up there. Places like this have a soul and a feeling and an important role in their local community. Its the same reason why a local diner will always have better food than some dumbass chain restaurant. There’s lots of pride and local flavor at these places. This gallery is proof!
