Dragsters and Altereds In Action at Famoso Raceway – March Meet Hot Rods At Work

It was dragsters that built the March Meet. From its earliest days in the late 1950s to the point where funny cars were so popular that they could to longer be ignored, front engine dragsters were the things that drew the crowds to Bakersfield for the Fuel and Gas Championships. The greatest names in the sport were driving the iconic machines as hard and fast as they could to win what was once and still remains one of the most prestigious in the world. This is a collection of photos featuring dragster and their shorter, stubbier, and wilder cousins, altered. Ok, we may have snuck a couple of funny cars in but the majority of these photos feature the open cockpit cars that most people still associate with the golden age of drag racing.
