One of the great stories that the drag racing world has produced over the last couple of years is that of a small eighth mile drag strip in Sikeston, Missouri. A man named Dom Blasco took ownership of the facility a few years ago and really did a fantastic job rehabbing it, operating it, and making it a place that people wanted to come racing. He’s championed the cause of nostalgia pro stock with his annual “Black Arrow Cup” and made the track into a family friendly and fun place. But, like all good things in life, things eventually end and so have the days of Dom Blasco owning this track. Amazingly the outcome of Blasco’s decision to step away for other opportunities has brought another legendary name into the fold.
Larry Jeffers is a very well known name a drag strips around the country but not because he operates them but because he builds the cars that tear down ’em. Larry Jeffers Race Cars has built some of the quickest door slammers of all time and now along with his chassis business he’s going to own the Sikeston Drag Strip which has been named Jeffers Motorsports Park. We understand that the schedule is going to remain pretty much the same for 2016 and that Jeffers has some improvements of his own planned for the track and we’re guessing that there may be some really serious heads up door slammer racing happening at the track sooner rather than later.
So why would a guy like Blasco who made a name for himself at this track and poured his heart and soul into it for years to build it up, sell? He got an offer he couldn’t refuse apparently and we’re going to tell you about that in the next blog item. We’re just glad that the track is in the hands of a person who will definitely never advocate for its sale as condo property or a public street.
Jeffers Motorsports Park in Sikeston, Missouri is OFFICILLY IN BUSINESS!
