eBay Find: This 1964 Ford Custom Q-Code Is A Factory Monster In A Plain White Wrapper (With an Upgrade!)

We’ve made it abundantly clear over the years that some of our favorite muscle cars are the ones that actually weren’t. By that we mean the big block station wagons and machines like this awesome 1964 Ford Custom Q-Code that was delivered from the factory with no options, a four speed, and one hairy 427FE engine under the hood. This was a car optioned by someone who wanted to go out and kick some serious ass at the drag strip or on the street. It was not ordered with practicality, usability, functionality, or any other normal concern. It was ordered wit a simple mindset. What’s the least flashy, fastest thing I can get the factory to send me. If it was 1964 and you wanted a Ford? This was it.

The Custom was the bottom of the trim scale for Ford during this era and going forward. Because of that the car was not laden down with heavy options. It was also available with radio and clock delete for the discerning buyer. This car has a heater because frankly you could not order it without. Everything came with the heater. We like it because it is in the Ford white shade that looks so great on the cars, especially with the matching steel wheels. The blister hood may be necessary to clear the Holman-Moody air cleaner but we’re not 100% sure.

The best part about this is that the car is a real Q-code machine. There are no claims made to the 427 under hood being the original one to the car and the transmission has been upgraded to a five speed, giving some better ratios for cruising around town with. Being that it is a Richmond, we’re guessing that fifth is 1:1 so perhaps the rear end ratio has been tamed somewhat as well. The original transmission is apparently available upon request if you want to set it as close back to original as possible.

This thing is awesome. It is the Ford equivalent to the Biscaynes that we love so much and we bet that this car hurt some feelings back in ’64!

it has the wrong freakin hubcaps. those are 63s not 64s. If you build a car like this & can’t get it right, that’s telling me you build it to sell & I HAVE TO WONDER WHAT OTHER SHORTCUTS MAY HAVE BEEN TAKEN.

Wrong, Q codes were a 427 with a single 4 bbl. R codes were a427 that had two 4bbls. Cool car, just not 53K cool.

Who gives a rat\’s ass about the hubcaps!

This is perfection and with that trans won\’t cost you the earth to enjoy it. But one question – as its just called a Custom is it a Galaxy? Because that\’s what it looks like to me.
