The ultimate bad day scenario for anyone, anywhere, is when the hood flies up at speed, completely blocking the forward view. Been there, done that, and I hope I never see that scene again so shall I live. My situation involved a girlfriend’s beater Dodge at about 80 miles an hour on a deadly straight road in eastern Colorado. The owner of this Ford Capri had a similar venture at Sydney Dragway, and after watching the footage a couple of times, we have to wonder how it happened in the first place. From what we can see, the car had provisions for hood pins, so unless some bonehead forgot to put the clips back into the hood pins, how did the hood come up? We don’t see a good explanation, like torn sheetmetal, so something tells us that there was a very heated discussion in the pits shortly after the Capri turned off of the track.

This reminds me of when a rally car driven by one of the sport’s all time greats had to complete a long stage with the hood fully open and lodged against the windscreen. His name unfortunately escapes me but I think he won the stage and perhaps even the rally.
But his hood moment was caused by exceedingly rough roads, and not blind stupidity!
I should not admit I forgot the hood pins in my old Camaro drag car back in the day but…..I did.
